COMPSAC is the IEEE Computer Society Signature Conference on Computers, Software and Applications. It is one of the major international forums for academia, industry, and government to discuss research results, advancements and future trends in computer and software technologies and applications.
This year the 41st COMPASC took place here at the Politecnico di Torino, from the 4th to the 8th of July, and IEEE-HKN organized a special panel entitled “Computing Education: the IEEE-HKN Perspective”. The panel chair was Sorel Reisman from the California State University, and the panelists were Claudio Giovanni Demartini from Politecnico di Torino, Head of the university’s Department of Control and Computer Engineering (DAUIN), Vincenzo Piuri from University of Milan, candidate for 2018 IEEE President-Elect, Jean-Luc Gaudiot from University of California Irvine, 2017 IEEE Computer Society President, and Nancy Ostin, Director of IEEE-HKN.
Despite the exam session, most of our chapter’s members attended the panel discussion and had the opportunity to meet some of IEEE-HKN professional members from the USA as well as HKN Director Nancy Ostin, who helped a lot during the Mu Nu Chapeter installation. The event was an important opportunity to discuss the problem of IT education and, more generally, technology education: in fact, during the discussion, it emerged the need to foster awareness of new technologies, to allow new generations to fully understand the potential of tools that they start to use from the very beginning.
